Senior Manager, Software Development - Madison, WI
This is leadership role managing 12 engineers in the advanced development group. I'm seeking a great people manager with project management skills (ideally experienced in Agile methodology), ability to understand and develop both people & product needs in the organization, solid technical software & engineering background with new product development focus in a medical device environment. The package includes an attractive base salary in the 115-130k range plus an annual bonus and full benefits. Major Duties and Responsibilities:
Directs the activities of a software applications development function where they oversee the analysis, design, programming, debugging and modification of computer programs for commercial or end user applications. This position is responsible for module testing and requirements documentation. Analyzes and investigates applications engineering tasks and prepares design specifications, analysis and recommendations. Selects, develops and evaluates personnel to ensure the efficient operation of the function. They ensure that activities of this function are incompliance with the established quality system and that personnel are trained in this system.
- SCOPE: Establishes operational objectives and work plans, and delegates assignments to subordinate managers. Senior management reviews objectives to determine success of operation. Involved in developing, modifying and executing company policies that affect immediate operations(s) and may also have company-wide effect.
- JOB COMPLEXITY: Works on issues where analysis of situations or data requires an in-depth knowledge of organizational objectives, as well as an understanding of company “politics.” Implements strategic policies when selecting methods, techniques, and evaluation criteria for obtaining results. Establishes and assures adherence to schedules, work plans and performance requirements.
- DISCRETION: Erroneous decisions will result in critical delay(s) in schedules and/or unit operations, and may jeopardize overall business activities
- INTERACTION: Regularly interacts with senior management or executive levels on matters concerning several functional areas, divisions, and/or customers. Requires the ability to change the thinking of, or gain acceptance from, others in sensitive situations, without damage to the relationship.
- SUPERVISION: Manages activities through subordinate managers and project leads who exercise full supervision of staff.
Position Requirements/Skills:
- The candidate must have experience with iterative/agile development methodologies
- 6-8 years of industry experience managing development of complex software applications in a regulated environment.
- . The candidate shall have at minimum a BS in computer science, software engineering, or related field. (Advanced degree preferred)
This is a full-time position with an outstanding compensation package - including a base salary (90-100k) and 10% annual bonus.

My client is a world-leader in medical devices and has an opening in their Fitchburg, WI group for a talented Software QA Manager
Directs the activities of a software quality assurance function. Develops quality standards for company products, and oversees the development and execution of software test plans and analysis of test results. Selects, develops and evaluates personnel to ensure the efficient operation of the function. This role ensures that activities of this function are incompliance with the established quality system and that personnel are trained in this system.
Responsibilities include:
- SCOPE: Participates with other senior managers to establish strategic plans and objectives. Makes final decisions on administrative or operational matters and ensures operations’ effective achievement of objectives.
- JOB COMPLEXITY: Works on issues where analysis of situations or data requires an in-depth knowledge of organizational objectives, as well as an understanding of company “politics.” Implements strategic policies when selecting methods, techniques, and evaluation criteria for obtaining results. Establishes and assures adherence to schedules, work plans and performance requirements.

Ideally we're seeking someone with:
- experience with software quality assurance of a medical device or equivalent development environment.
- 6-8 years of industry experience managing development of complex software applications in a regulated environment.
- a BS in computer science, software engineering, or related field. (Advanced degree preferred)
The position includes a base range of 110-130K plus 7.5% annual bonus and outstanding benefits with medical, vision, dental, life, short-term and long term disability, long-term care, and 401(k) with company match. Relocation will be offered to non-local candidates.
